Have you ever received feedback that affected you in a good or bad way? I don’t have much personal experience on this topic, but I do know how to give effective feedback. So, I’m going to explain it to you.

Let’s take coding projects as an example. In the software world, developers constantly receive feedbacks from their superiors, customers, and co-workers. Due to its dynamic configuration, this feedbacks are more valuable than ever.

 

However, the person giving feedback must be conscious of how they express themselves. Because while constructive feedback can enhance a project, poorly expressed feedback can negatively affect it.

 

Giving a good review can be challenging, but anyone can do it with the right approach. First of all, when you give feedback on a project, you must understand and observe the context. Moreover, considering what the developer is aiming for can help you better understand the strengths and weaknesses of the project. The next step is to identify the problems using this information and provide specific, clear feedback. While doing so, try not to make it personal—just focus on the work. This helps avoid conflicts of interest.

 

In this process, the feedback receivers also have responsibilities. Although receiving feedback can sometimes be frustrating, they should try to view it as a dialogue, not a judgment. If they approach it this way, they will realize that feedback improves their work and their skills. Furthermore, the work environment and communication between team members will also improve.
